CSUN is in the San Fernando Valley, known as the Valley by the locals. It is an urbanized geographical area in Los Angeles, California. There are multiple hospitals serving the community.CSUN is the only State university in the Valley and is located between CSU Los Angeles (LA) and CSU Channel Islands, a 57 miles radius. CSUN Nursing program is the only available program that offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in three different tracks, all designed to meet the needs of the undergraduate students in the area. Accelerated BSN (A-BSN), for those students holding a Bachelor’s degree in any field transitioning into Nursing; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to BSN, a collaborative program between nine community colleges in the greater metropolitan LA area; and a Registered Nurse (RN) to BSN track for practicing nurses striving to achieve their BSN degree. The mission of the CSUN degree is to develop professional nursing leaders in all areas of practice who can apply new and past nursing knowledge and build upon existing competencies. Position:
The department of Nursing at California State University Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Nursing at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in nursing theory and clinical and have research interests in Nursing and health related science.   In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.  The typical teaching workload is twelve (12) units per semester; three (3) additional units of workload will be required for administrative duties each semester. Teaching on weekdays, evenings, weekends hybrid, on-line and clinical shifts may be required. Clinical shifts may exceed eight (8) hours. Participation in curricular design and program development activities, working knowledge of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation process, responsibility for diverse student advisement, directing/overseeing student in class performance and clinical skill proficiency development opportunities are integral duties in the position. Supervision of graduate research projects/theses is anticipated for the graduate students. The successful candidate will maintain an active program of scholarly/creative research and publication/performance in nursing and health related fields.
 
Required Qualifications:

  • Evidence of holding a valid RN license in the State of California
  • Evidence of a terminal degree (PhD or DNP or the like) or one in progress, completed before time of appointment; from an accredited institution with focus in Nursing or a related field
  • College or University-level teaching experience both in person and on-line       
  • Evidence of specialization in obstetrics (OB) and Medical-Surgical areas
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for advisement and inclusive approaches to mentoring of Nursing students
  • Evidence of research interest and/or research agenda that will lead into conducting research and scholarly publication
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition, the successful candidate should have:
  • Evidence of effective engagement OR potential to engage with a diverse student body ·         Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
  • Experience creating a student-centered learning environment
  • Research/lab (SIM, skills) experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Evidence of adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring
  • Evidence of clinical specialty preceptor experience that includes working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Evidence of community outreach projects with health promotion activities that includes students
  • Evidence of experience with education focused technology: CANVAS, QUALTRICS,
  • Evidence of working knowledge in curricular design and program development activities
  • Evidence of working knowledge of the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation process
  • Evidence of knowledge in conducting research and involving students in the research projects
